Dominican Sister of Peace Joan Miriam Glaser, OP (98), a native of Spalding, Nebraska, died on April 28, 2025, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Joan is survived by one sister, Mary Helen Cannon (Grand Island, NE) and several nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 76 years, Sr. Joan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Catholic University of America (Washington, DC) and a Master of Healthcare Administration from St. Louis University (St. Louis, MO). She ministered as a teacher at St. Mary (Bellevue, NE). Sr. Joan worked as a medical supervisor at St. Catherine Hospital (McCook, NE). She was an assistant administrator at St. Catherine Hospital (McCook, NE) and Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital (Omaha, NE). Sister served as administrator at Rosary Hospital (Campbellsville, KY) and Mary Immaculate Hospital/Manor (Lebanon, KY). She later went on to minister as project administrative assistant at Omaha-Douglas Co. Health Dept. (Omaha, NE). In 1979, Sr. Joan held the position of Director of Quality Assurance at St. Mary Hospital East St. Louis (Belleville, IL). In 1982, she was a primary nurse and chaplain on the hospice team at the University of NE Medical Center (Omaha, NE). She also served as the Assistant Western Regional Coordinator for the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine (St. Catharine, KY). She worked in parish ministry and as a visiting nurse for the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Stanislaus Parish (Omaha, NE). In 2007, Sister moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, KY, where she provided community service.
In 2017, Sr. Joan moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale – Polin – Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Sister chose cremation. The cremains visitation begins at 2pm, Tuesday, May 6, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, May 7, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
