State Fair Masses were Aug. 29 at Sept. 5 at Fonner Park in Grand Island. Father Tom Ogg celebrated Aug. 29 while Bishop Emeritus William J. Dendinger celebrated Sept. 5. Both Masses were well attended with 130 on Aug. 29 and 165 on Sept. 5.

“Mad Scientist” Mrs. Ramirez at St. Agnes in Scottsbluff visited the kindergarten class Sept. 16.

Gracie Woods, Grand Island Central Catholic junior, won the Nebraska Catholic Conference’s statewide Pro-Life Essay Contest for her work from the 2020-2021 school year. She received a $150 prize, as will Grand Island Central Catholic. The contest was sponsored by the Bishops’ Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities.

Our Lady of Lourdes CCW in Ravenna sponsored a family, faith and fun night on Aug. 14. The event included outdoor games, a cake walk, bounce house, bingo and music by Tim Mohanna.

The third annual Sts. Peter and Paul Holy Smoke Cook-Off was Aug. 28 where parishioners could play in a bags tournament, watch the Husker football game and participate in a raffle.

Amy Hencey-Graham has been nominated for the 2021 Lumen Christi Award. Hencey-Graham is the director of the Chadron State College Newman House.

St. Catharine, Ky. – Dominican Sister of Peace Maria del Rey Mangan, OP, 93, a native of Greeley, died on June 2, 2021, at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky. Sr.

The Rev. Robert Francis Chamberlain, 91, of North Platte, died May 1 at Linden Court. Father Chamberlain was born January 11, 1930, to Robert Chester and Margaret Frances (Schrader) Chamberlain in Sutherland.

Rev. James E. Murphy, 94, retired priest, beloved brother, uncle, and a very loved and important part of the communities of Spalding and Ericson, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at his home in Spalding, NE.

LINCOLN–Julia Schmit-Albin, 63, the executive director of Nebraska Right to Life since 1989, died Aug. 22, 2020, at her home in Lincoln, following a long struggle with breast and then ovarian cancer.

In fact, the restrictions placed upon us by civil authorities has moved the Church to use what technology we already have at our disposal
